This guy hears banging on his door at night, followed by someone shouting. Then within 3-4 seconds sees a dark figure in his patio area (his lights were on so he couldn’t see outside very well), as his eyes adjust you can literally see his respond to “he’s got a gun!” by pulling his gun back further before being capped. In this short time it appears he had his weapon already in his hands, which isn’t illegal in any way, as he investigates what the commotion is about. In. The middle of this he sees a dark figure in his backyard approaching, this figure starts shouting “He’s got a gun! He’s got a gun!” Which clearly spooks him into pulling his gun back further, he never tried to aim it toward the police. It’s easy to say we would drop the gun and put our hands up in hindsight. Or any number of other actions. This officer probably would have shot at any sudden movement though. I know the police are in danger here, and so is the resident. I can see both sides, the officer not wanting to take ANY chances at losing his life. I can’t help but wonder if the officer took a second more to announce himself as an officer and tell the man to drop his gun slowly, if any shots would have been fired…
